The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) as the apex professional body responsible for Engineering, has always maintained relevant, timely and high quality standards for the academic qualifications for an Engineer. A four year full time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a reputed University, completed after successfully passing the GCE (A/L) in the Mathematics Stream is the benchmark academic qualification recognized for this purpose. This requirement has been fulfilled by the Engineering Degrees awarded by the Engineering Faculties of the State Universities regulated under the University Grants Commission.

It has been brought to the attention of the IESL that, advertisements for various study programmes appearing in print and electronic media and cyber space claim that such programmes are according to IESL approved curricula and the qualifications in Engineering thus obtained lead to automatic recognition by the IESL

The IESL wishes to notify the public that apart from the Degrees awarded by the IESL recognized State Universities, no other qualification has been recognized by the IESL, unless specific reference to recognition including the effective period is specified by the IESL. For further queries in this regard, please contact the IESL Secretariat.
