Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam Said that from 2018 students will be allowed to sit for the GCE Advanced Level classes even if they do not pass the Ordinary Level examination.

The minister promised that a reform to the education system was in the pipeline and a committee headed by the Prime Minister was involved in the matter. Mr. Kariyawasam said the government’s aim was to provide 13 years of continuous education to every student.

Minister Kariyawasam also noted that several new subjects will be added to the school curriculum.
