Institute of Banker of Sri Lanka is a professional body to conduct professional qualification of Banking Examination in Sri Lanka.

These Banking examinations are highly recommended in state and private banking sector in Sri Lanka. Promotions and carrier progress are based on qualifying this examination along with other qualification.

Currently Institute of Banker of Sri Lanka conduct below programmes

  1. Intermediate in Applied Banking & Finance (IABF)
  2. Diploma in Applied Banking & Finance (DABF)

Intermediate in Applied Banking & Finance (IABF)

Goals

Completion of this examination would enable the candidates

  • To earn knowledge and understanding of the institutional, legal and operational environment of banking and financial Institutions
  • To earn an internationally recognized qualification
  • To seek job opportunities in the Banking & Financial sector
  • To better ones career prospects if employed
  • To enter the University degree route through the Diploma in Applied Banking and Finance (DABF)

Exam – Subjects

(1) Intermediate in Applied Banking and Finance (6 subjects : 4 compulsory and 2 optional out of 4)

Compulsory Subjects

  1. Survey of Financial System
  2. Commercial Banking
  3. Business Accounting
  4. Introduction to Banking and Financial Law

Optional Subjects

  1. Principles of Economics
  2. Non-Banking Financial Business
  3. Financial Clients Management
  4. Business Mathematics and Statistics

IABF Entry Requirements

To register as a student member of the IBSL to sit IABF, the following requirements should be complied with.

  1. An employee of a licensed bank or any financial institution licensed or approved by a state authority in Sri Lanka or abroad under any Statute or
  2. An employee of a company incorporated under the Companies Act or any company Incorporation Statute in Sri Lanka or abroad or
  3. A degree from a recognized university in Sri Lanka or abroad or
  4. Final qualification of a professional academic institute in Sri Lanka or abroad on banking, finance, audit, management and marketing or
  5. GCE (A/L) or equivalent examination in Sri Lanka or abroad having 3 passes with 2 credit passes and credit pass in Mathematics in GCE (O/L) or equivalent examination in Sri Lanka or abroad or
  6. GCE (A/L) or equivalent examination in Sri Lanka or abroad with 2 passes and GCE (O/L) or equivalent examination in Sri Lanka or abroad having 6 passes at two sittings with 5 credit passes including Mathematics or
  7. GCE (O/L) or equivalent examination in Sri Lanka or abroad with 6 passes at one sitting having 5 credit passes including Mathematics

Diploma in Applied Banking & Finance (DABF)

Goals

Completion of this examination would enable the candidates

  • To earn an internationally recognized qualification in Banking & Finance
  • To seek job opportunities in Sri Lanka or abroad
  • To better ones career prospects if employeed
  • To proceed towards an MBA programme offered by Northumbria University, U.K., or any other foreign university or Sri Lankan university

Diploma in Applied Banking and Finance (7 subjects: 4 compulsory and 3 optional out of 5)

  • Economics of Money and Monetary Policy
  • Financial Management
  • International Trade and Finance
  • Credit Management

  • Financial Markets Operations
  • Investment Banking
  • Development Finance
  • Central Banking

DABF Entry Requirements

  • Candidates should possess any one of the following Qualifications
  • A pass at the Certificate in Banking and Finance(CBF)
  • A pass at the Intermediate in Applied Banking and Finance (IABF)

Examinations

Intermediate in Applied Banking & Finance (IABF) & Diploma in Applied Banking & Finance (DABF) are used to conducted in March and September of every year and the results are release on January for September exam and June for March examiattions.
